Healthy Meal Planning For A Family Up to 6

Buying groceries to create family meals takes. money, planning, preparation all while, on a budget. I make grocery lists and try very hard to stay within the up to $20, no more than $40 per meal to feed at least six people. I shop using coupons ,weekly sales ads and often check the discounted labeled aisle for bargains.



For example, I wanted to make Chicken Fajitas and Salad for Lunch/ Snack the other day . So I took a trip to the store and purchased the following:

1 pack of small flour tortillas @ $1.99

1 bag of grilled chicken on sale @ $3.99

1 pack of pre sliced onions w/yellow, green 

and red peppers @ $4.99.

1 bag of Salad mix @ $3.99

2 Tomatoes @ $2.25

1 Large Cucumber @ $0.70

At checkout I paid $17.91 for these groceries. So healthy,delicious and inexpensive to eat well.

Creating Black History 365 For You And Your Family




Every February of every year since I can remember has been set aside for Black
history month. Each year as children of the Diaspora, we celebrate the legend, heroes, history and culture of Black people whom
have made great contributions to societies
all over the world. So why should Black 
people not celebrate their achievements
365 days out of the year?

As an African American woman of Hispanic
and West Indian descent I get to be just that unappollogetically with no breaks. I come
from a lineage of beautiful, intelligent, determined , strong Black women who
deserve to be recognized.


So let us not limit ourselves to one month. 

Celebrate Black history, your history 365.

Fall Dinner Meal For Family of 6 Under $25


Eating out can be very costly, not extremely healthy and does not take the place of  preparing and

cooking a delicious meal at home that your family will love. Even though food prices at the Grocers

can run high it is always the better and preferred choice for working and or busy families. Mine is no

exception.

Baked Chicken with Roasted Vegetables

Whole Chicken-$7.17

2 Large Fresh Carrots- 1.50

2 Heads of Broccoli- $1.05

4 Red Potatoes- $2.50

1/4 Squash- $1.07

Preheat oven to 350. Rinse and towel pat Chicken. Season with herbs and spices such as paprika black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, chicken seasoning, parsley) to your liking, place in baking pan with cut vegetables(your choice or examples above), cover and bake 2.5 hours. Uncover and brown 25 minutes. Let cool 15 minutes.


Oven Baked Mac and Cheese

1 box Elbow Macaroni- $1.99

2 bags Shredded Sharp Cheddar Cheese- $6.58 or $3.29 each

Preheat oven to 350. Cook macaroni according to instructions on box. Drain. Place noodles in pan or dish. Add butter, salt, black pepper, milk and cheese. Mix together well. Cover and bake for 1.5 hours until chees is well melted. Let cool 15 minutes.

A really nice desert would be Apple pie and Vanilla Ice Cream.

Budget Meals- Feeding a Family of 4 for under $20

 


Spinach-Chicken Alfredo

I chose to cook Alfredo using the Knorr Pasta Fettuccine Sides. Using two packages to feed a family size of four, I added seasoned Spinach and grilled Chicken Breast to balance out the meal. Also on the side I added bread sticks. Knorr Products are definitely a hit in my household. Visit your local grocer and try some for your family today.
